I just wanted to go ahead and say it. The iPhone 4S is nothing spectacular and I love Apple, but this isn’t the most amazing update to the iPhone line. Don’t get me wrong I see where they’re going with this. It’s the same phone I have in my hand now but a better camera, faster chip set and will run iOS 5 a lot smoother I would imagine. Ok, so it is different technically but I digress. It’s the typical iterative process that Apple does to make their products evolve with the consumer. The one thing I’m juiced about is Siri. It’s not just your regular voice command it’s a freaking HAL 9000 in your pocket.
“What are you doing Dave, Clicking the read more button?”
I get excited to think how awesome the world would be when I can talk to a device and it will react with a unique response based on my words. Some will argue, “This has been done before!” or “I have this on my Android device.” and I’ll answer with a polite, “No it hasn’t and no you don’t”. Apple has obviously been working on this for awhile and obviously Apple knew what they were doing back in 2010 when they purchased the company “Siri”. I’m pretty sure this is going to evolve into an even more amazing Apple product, that we’ll see on all of their “Devices”. Keep in mind Apple has now considered their laptops to be a “Device” now.
It reminds me of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home when they had to save some whales from extinction because apparently this Alien ship could only communicate with a certain type of whale. So the Aliens were threatening earth because this whale was extinct and they could not connect with these whales. So the Star Trek Enterprise traveled back in time to save these whales from earth, to save earth…ok, I am a nerd. But seriously there was a part in the movie where Scotty picks up the mouse of this old Mac and says, “Computer?”. Cracked me up. Enjoy the video.
Ok…back to my point. This is happening folks and it’s going to be done in a great conversational flow that Siri will feel like your own personal assistant. My guess is that this will be the flagship feature for the iPhone 4S but I’m pretty certain it will come out on the iPad 2. Honestly I wouldn’t put it past Apple to sell it as an app for the older iPhone 4′s or something like that. Only Apple holds the key to it’s release on other devices and some Russian kid who Jailbreaks the iPhone 4S on day 1.
Anyways I think this is a home run for Apple what are your thoughts?
